Assays, reagents, kits, and other assorted products used to detect cellular apoptosis, determine the activity levels of caspase or cathepsin, or identify similar cellular activity.
This kit provides a convenient assay for quantifying apoptotic (green) and necrotic (red) cells within the same cell population by flow cytometry or fluorescence microscopy. The kit contains Annexin V labeled with CF488A which binds to apoptotic cells by binding to phosphatidylserine (PS) exposed on the cell surface, and Ethidium Homodimer III (EthD-III) which is a membrane impermeant nucleic acid probe specific for dead cells. Staining is rapid, requiring only a single 15-30 minute staining step. CF488A Annexin V has an excitation emission of 490/515 nm and is brighter and more photostable than FITC Annexin V. EthD-III has an excitation/emission of 522/593 nm (and a large absorption peak at 279 nm) when bound to DNA. The kit also contains a membrane permeable DNA dye Hocechst 3342 to stain all cell nuclei blue for analysis of healthy cells. The kit has reagents sufficient reagent for 50 assays.

This gene encodes a member of the annexin family. Members of this calcium-dependent phospholipid-binding protein family play a role in the regulation of cellular growth and in signal transduction pathways. This protein functions as an autocrine factor which heightens osteoclast formation and bone resorption. This gene has three pseudogenes located on chromosomes 4, 9 and 10, respectively. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. Annexin A2 expression has been found to correlate with resistance to treatment against various cancer forms.
